Across the Universe

I have a new found appreciation for blogging! I found one of my favorite people in the whole world linked to another friend's blog. Amanda! It's so good to be in touch with you again! When I was young (17) and a freshman living at Belmont, Amanda was one of the first people I met. She came over to my apartment on the first Sunday and said, "Hey! Can I give you a ride to church?" and it became our little tradition- just always went to church together. She's so fun and so talented and was a really pivotal friend at that time in my life. She's so lovable that I'm actually stealing a post from her blog because I thought it was so cool. I too am a huge Beatles fan (my Dad has every record) and those songs dot almost every childhood memory of mine. Across the Universe has to be easily in the top 3 of my favorite all-time Beatles songs. So without further adieu, here is one of Amanda's old posts (because it's way cooler than something I would have thought of myself:)

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither while they pass they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind,
Possessing and caressing me
Jai guru de va om
Nothing's gonna change my world

Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on across the universe,
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box they
Tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing
Through my open ears inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns and calls me on and on
Across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Jai guru deva

I have always loved the words to this song, but it got me thinking that I had never taken the time to figure out what "Jai guru deva" means. So, I did a little research and found out that it means "I thank the Heavenly Teacher" in Sanskrit. Now I thought this line was very fitting for this song and it deepened my appreciation for this classic! I think I need to take a little more time to thank the Heavenly teacher myself.

Thanks Amanda. It's good to have you back.
